This is how the local news papers reported my performance at the San Diego International Triathlon.........Second Place finisher on hand Sunday with Olympic experience was Jones, the Carlsbad resident who claimed a silver medal in the women's triathlon at the 2000 Olympics in her homeland of Australia. She was in gold-medal form Sunday throughout the swim and the bike, taking a 45-second lead into the bike-to-run transition.
But then the 12-time winner (in 14 previous appearances) had a sense of deja vu.
"The last time I got beat on this course was 1991," said Jones, who sat out the previous two SDITs after winning back-to-back titles in 2006-07. "It was Carol Montgomery, and I swear Lesley passed me in the same spot.
"But I knew she was coming. She runs a little quicker than me.:":) She did have a 35mins 10km split.
They also forgot to mention I only decided to race the morning of the competition..Why?....Well apart from the 6.30am race start it was racing three weekends i a row that was being to catch up. But after a little reminder to myself how much fun it is to race locally against all my friends.
Actually I felt really good and was happy with a second place finish. Neily Mathias from the GoMichellie.com Racing team had a great performance with 6th i her division.
While Neels and I were sprinting our way around San Diego Kevin and Eric were in Coeur d'Alene for the Ironman. Both made to the finish line and both did it with a personal best time. Marisa was in the land of Cowboys and Cowgirls at the Texas 70.3 ironman despite hot and windy conditions Marisa finished 7th. Way to Go team.
