Podium Finish
This weekends theme was to soar with the Eagles.
Conditions were expected to be challenging and all the predictions were correct. In fact at 4.30 in the morning you could have paraded around in your bikini and still been hot.
Race morning began early especially if you were coming from California. Not that I sleep that much the night before a race although it would be nice too. After a light delay of the start time we tackled the swim. The swim looked long and our swim times reflected this or perhaps it was the strong current we had to tackle. I actually led the swim for 3/4 of it and them was overtaken by Warner for the remainder. I was thinking of taking 1st place line honors but the cramp in my calf when I stood up pretty much ended my chance of any swim glory.
To tell you the truth I was a little scared my calf muscle was maybe torn and I would not be able to finish. Once on the bike I tried to focus on the bike and worry about my calf later when I had to run.
I transition into 6th position losing a chuck of change over the last 18 miles perhaps the high humidity and temperature really affected my power output.
As I ran, I just kept telling myself to look after my calf and be smart and run a steady rhythm. Which really helped because soon the calf issue was the furthest from my mind. I was also slowly gaining on my fellow competitors. Just after the turn around I moved into 3rd. So in hot humid conditions where even snow cones were required, yes snow cones I managed to hold it together for a 3rd place finish.
Brandy B. represented the GoMichellie.com Racing team in fine fashion by taking 7th place in the 25-29 division.
Eagleman is a fantastic event and a must do.
